Why Targums?

Although the Targums are not inspired scripture, they are paraphrased versions of the Tanak from around the early 1st-4th centuries. The Targums provide a window into early rabbinic thought and provides proof that they knew there was a "2nd Power" from Heaven, I.E. The Messiah as Elohiym (God).
